Tiana D. Wynn, The Arc Baltimore
Tiana joined The Arc Baltimore’s Board of Directors in 2019 and quickly distinguished herself through her willingness to step outside her financial profession to contribute in meaningful ways. She initially became involved with the Development & Marketing Committee, soon rose to chair it, and later expanded her service by joining the Finance Committee and serving as Board Secretary.
Tiana takes her role seriously, always seeking to fully understand what is needed and how she can advance the mission. Her commitment is evident not only in governance but in action. When an off-site location for a board retreat, she graciously hosted The Arc at her company, SB & Company. She also facilitated the use of her company’s conference room for the organization’s Career Catalyst program, directly supporting workforce development opportunities for the people we serve.
When unexpected changes arose in Board leadership, Tiana once again stepped forward without hesitation—first agreeing to serve as Vice President and, in 2024, accepting the responsibility of Board President. Since assuming the presidency, she has provided steady, thoughtful leadership and a strong partnership to the executive team.
Her leadership was especially visible in 2025, during The Arc’s 75th Anniversary year. While serving as Board President, Tiana played an active role on the Carats & Cocktails planning committee, helping guide and support the success of this milestone celebration. She leads with professionalism, humility, and a deep commitment to The Arc’s mission, consistently demonstrating the kind of leadership that strengthens our organization and positions it for the future.
Sue Hurley, The Arc Carroll County
Sue Hurley has been a dedicated volunteer at The Arc of Carroll County for several years. Sue brings her passion for fitness and health education to the individuals served by the Arc, some of whom have significant challenges with mobility and traveling to other community locations.
Sue enthusiastically teaches her “Fit&Fun” class weekly. Sue brings her excitement and passion, which energize the individuals who attend her class. This engaging class has been great for the individuals supported to learn and practice body movement and strength building in a safe and fun environment. We are grateful for Ms. Hurley and her dedication and passion. The Arc Carroll County greatly appreciates Sue’s vision and willingness to give back to her community in a meaningful way that is keeping people moving and healthy.
Frank Gonzalez, The Arc of Frederick County
Frank Gonzalez has been a dedicated volunteer instructor with The Arc of Frederick County for the past year and a half, consistently demonstrating an exceptional commitment to supporting individuals with developmental disabilities. Through his leadership of the guitar class, Frank has created a welcoming and structured environment where participants feel supported, encouraged, and inspired to learn.
More than an instructor, Frank is a mentor and role model. He takes the time to build meaningful relationships with each participant, approaching every interaction with patience, respect, and genuine care. His ability to adapt his teaching style ensures that each individual can engage at their own pace, fostering confidence, independence, and a strong sense of accomplishment.
Frank’s impact extends far beyond music instruction. Through his work, he promotes inclusion, self-expression, and community connection, empowering participants to discover their abilities and share their talents with others. His presence has enriched not only the lives of those he teaches but also the broader Arc community.
For his outstanding dedication, leadership, and lasting impact, Frank Gonzalez is deserving of Volunteer of the Year.
Derward Brooks, The Arc Howard County
Derward Brooks is recognized as Volunteer of the Year for stepping forward in an extraordinary way during a critical time for The Arc Howard County. When the Board faced an urgent need for financial leadership, Derward willingly took on the role of Treasurer, bringing not only professional expertise but also a remarkable spirit of service and dedication.
As a volunteer, he assumed significant responsibility for overseeing the organization’s financial governance, including reviewing budgets, monitoring financial reports, and helping ensure sound fiscal practices. Derward’s guidance strengthened the Board’s confidence and gave staff leadership the support needed to navigate an important transition with stability. What makes this contribution especially deserving of recognition is the level of commitment Derward demonstrated as a volunteer. He gave generously of his time, stepped well beyond the normal expectations of board service, and remained dependable during a period when their leadership was essential. His willingness to share their expertise strengthened the organization’s financial foundation and helped ensure that services could continue without disruption.
Through their service, dependable leadership, and commitment to our mission, Derward made an impact far beyond the Treasurer role itself. His actions embody the spirit of volunteerism and the values of dedication, generosity, and community leadership.
Eugene J. Mark, Jr., The Arc Maryland
Eugene Mark has dedicated decades of volunteer leadership and professional expertise to advancing the mission of The Arc and strengthening support for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families across Maryland.
Prior to joining The Arc Maryland Board as Treasurer, Gene volunteered with The Arc Montgomery County for more than 20 years, including serving three terms as Board President. He has also been a longtime member of The Arc Maryland’s Finance Committee, generously sharing his legal and accounting expertise to help ensure the organization’s strong fiscal stewardship and stability.
Over the past two years in particular, Gene has played a critical role in helping The Arc Maryland develop a plan for long-term sustainment and growth. His thoughtful leadership and strategic guidance have helped position the organization to build the resources necessary to continue its advocacy and ensure that people with IDD and their families have the services, supports, and opportunities they need to thrive in Maryland.
R3 LLC, The Arc Montgomery County
R3 LLC is recognized as Volunteer of the Year for its outstanding commitment to supporting the mission of The Arc Montgomery County and the people they support.
Throughout the year, the R3 team has shown up with both dedication and heart. Their employees volunteered their time and energy to support The Arc Montgomery County’s End-of-Year Picnic, an event that brings together people, families, and employees to celebrate community, connection, and joy. From setup to ensuring everything ran smoothly, their presence helped create an environment where everyone could feel welcomed, included, and celebrated.
Beyond their support at the picnic, R3 made a meaningful impact during the holiday season. Their team volunteered to wrap gifts for the people we support under Community Living Services (CLS). Because of their generosity, many people who may not have otherwise had a gift to open, were able to experience the joy and excitement of the holidays. This act of service went far beyond wrapping presents; it brought dignity, care, and happiness to the people we support.
R3 embodies what it means to be a true community partner. Their willingness to give their time, support The Arc programs, and uplift people in meaningful ways reflects the spirit of service and compassion that this award represents. The Arc is grateful for the lasting impact they continue to make.
Beth Bayer, The Arc Northern Chesapeake Region
Since 2018, Beth Bayer has been an extraordinary volunteer and steadfast champion of The Arc Northern Chesapeake Region. She began her service as a tutor, offering personalized support that made a profound and lasting impact on the life of a person served at The Arc. Since 2019, Beth has expanded her commitment by joining the board of directors, where she quickly became a trusted leader and passionate advocate for The Arc’s mission. She now serves as Vice Chairperson of the Governing Board and is an integral member of the Executive Committee.
Beth continues to deepen her involvement in meaningful and creative ways. Most recently, she has brought joy and connection directly into The Arc Northern Chesapeake Region’s Community Living homes by leading craft nights—an activity that the people we support eagerly anticipate and truly love. In addition, her thoughtful guidance on monarc, LLC Management Committee, The Arc’s new mental health practice, has strengthened our early planning efforts and helped shape a strong foundation for the future.
Beth’s unwavering dedication, versatility, and genuine compassion embody the very best of volunteer leadership. Her impact is felt across our organization, and she is profoundly deserving of this recognition.
Lisa Shames, The Arc Prince George’s County
Lisa Shames embodies the spirit of “Limitless” through her unwavering dedication, courage, and compassion as a board member and advocate for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Over the past year, Lisa has gone above and beyond in every way, demonstrating that true leadership has no limits when it is driven by purpose. She has been a constant presence at advocacy rallies—often braving rain and freezing temperatures—because she understands that showing up matters. Her commitment doesn’t waver when conditions are uncomfortable; instead, it strengthens her resolve to stand alongside the community and fight for meaningful change.
Lisa has also powerfully represented The Arc’s mission by testifying in budget hearings, where she shares deeply personal and emotional stories to highlight the real-life impact of policy decisions. Her testimony is not only compelling—it is transformative, helping decision-makers see beyond numbers and into the lives of the people we serve.
In addition, Lisa generously gave her time and voice during an extensive interview process, engaging thoughtfully and asking important questions that elevated the conversation and deepened understanding. Her curiosity and willingness to engage reflect her genuine investment in making systems better for everyone.
Lisa’s limitless energy, empathy, and advocacy have made a profound impact on our chapter and the broader community. She leads with heart, acts with purpose, and inspires others to believe in what’s possible.
Michael Kasecamp, The Arc Washington County
Mike Kasecamp of the Arc of Washington County Chapter is recognized for the Volunteer of the Year Award. Mike’s service to the Arc of Washington County has been exceptional, and his leadership has had a lasting impact on both the organization and the community he serves.
Mike was a member of the Board of Directors for the last 11 years and served as Treasurer for the final 4 years of his term. He has generously shared his time, skills, and heart in support of the organization’s mission. He has played a vital role in helping guide the organization with integrity, accountability, and vision. His careful financial oversight and responsible management have helped ensure the nonprofit remains strong, sustainable, and well-positioned to continue its important work. Mike played an integral role in guiding the organization through the pandemic and also provided his professional expertise to lead the organization to financial stability, while growing and strengthening our Endowment. Mike exemplifies what it means to be a community leader. He has volunteered not for recognition, but because he believes in making a difference. His contributions have strengthened the organization from within and helped expand its ability to serve the community more effectively. He is truly deserving of this recognition and an inspiring example of selfless leadership and service.
