We want to share some exciting news about the future of The Arc in Maryland. To ensure that The Arc maintains a statewide presence for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) and their families, several partner affiliates of The Arc Maryland are expanding their reach:
- In addition to continuing to serve the communities of Baltimore County and Baltimore City, The Arc Baltimore will expand to serve Anne Arundel County’s Council Districts 1,2, and 3.
- In addition to continuing to serve the communities of Charles, St. Mary’s, and Calvert Counties, The Arc Southern Maryland will expand to serve Anne Arundel County’s Council Districts 4 through 7.
- The Arc Northern Chesapeake Region will add clinical supports to its rich service offerings in Harford County and begin exploring service needs on the Eastern Shore.

These expansions follow the disaffiliation of a former local chapter earlier this year and reaffirm the network’s commitment to maintaining a strong, statewide presence of providing high-quality services, advocacy, and support. Find out more about service offerings by clicking the chapter links above!
We know change can raise questions, so we want to reassure you:
- The Arc’s DNA has not changed. Our values, mission, and commitment remain the same.
- Local chapters remain dedicated to the counties they have always served, while also extending their expertise and care to new neighbors. Expansion will not reduce services anywhere.
- The Arc network is stronger than ever. With this expansion, we are opening new doors for people with IDD and their families. Plus, we look forward to collaborating with our peer organizations that are already providing meaningful services in these communities.
“Families can be reassured that nothing about The Arc’s DNA has changed,” said Ande Kolp, Executive Director of The Arc Maryland. “Local chapters of The Arc across the state remain deeply committed to the counties they have always served, while also extending their expertise and care to new neighbors. This growth strengthens the entire network of The Arc and creates more opportunities for people with IDD and their families to be part of The Arc community. We look forward to working alongside peer organizations already making a difference in these communities.”
The Arc Maryland and its partner affiliates will continue to collaborate closely to ensure smooth transitions and a strong future for people with IDD across the state.
