A survey, conducted by Brunswick Partners, found that 75 percent of Americans agree that the proposed changes to Medicaid in the AHCA are a bad idea. And that we should not allow 14 million Americans to become uninsured even if there is a potential to reduce Medicaid spending. These results are significant because they find majorities of Americans identifying as conservatives (55 percent), moderates (82 percent) and liberals (90 percent) are opposed to the AHCA’s Medicaid provisions. The results below are across the political spectrum, with even majorities of self-identified conservatives objecting to the proposed Medicaid changes. Here are the highlights:
- 75 percent of Americans agree that the proposed changes to Medicaid in the AHCA are a bad idea. And that we should not allow 14 million Americans to become uninsured even if there is a potential to reduce Medicaid spending. These results are significant because they find majorities of Americans identifying as conservatives (55 percent), moderates (82 percent) and liberals (90 percent) are opposed to the AHCA’s Medicaid provisions.
- 70 percent of Americans believe that Medicaid has been good for the country (65 percent of conservatives, 68 percent of moderates and 81 percent of liberals).
- 74 percent of Americans believe that cutting Medicaid funding should NOT be a top priority for Congress in 2017 (62 percent of conservatives, 79 percent of moderates and 82 percent of liberals).
- 77 percent of Americans believe that seniors in nursing homes or those who receive home care should be able to keep Medicaid benefits (74 percent of conservatives, 75 percent of moderates and 86 percent of liberals);
- 85 percent of Americans believe that people with disabilities should be able to keep Medicaid benefits (83 percent of conservatives, 83 percent of moderates and 89 percent of liberals); and
- 80 percent of Americans believe that children should be able to keep Medicaid benefits (78 percent of conservatives, 77 percent of moderates and 87 percent of liberals).
